CUHA provides emergency funds to Colorado hay banks
The Colorado Unwanted Horse Alliance has provided the Colorado Horsecare Foodbank and Western Slope Hay Bank emergency funds to acquire more hay to help horse owners that are finding it difficult to feed their horses. CUHA presented each organization with $1,000 to help them provide hay to those in need and encourages others to donate if they can.
"We are pleased to be able to provide funds to the hay banks so they can continue their admirable work of helping horse owners in need," said Hildy Armour of the Colorado Unwanted Horse Alliance. "We know the drought in Colorado has driven up hay prices and made availability difficult, but there is help in Colorado. We encourage those in need to contact the hay banks for assistance; or, if you have resources to share, please consider contributing to these great resources."

CUHA's recent donation of funds specifically for hay was not the first. In August, $15,000 was awarded by CUHA to the two hay banks and to 14 horse rescues; and in December, Colorado horse lovers at the Denver Square Foot Art Show raised an additional $550 for CUHA to distribute to hay banks. Horse devotees throughout the year use events as fundraising opportunities for CUHA to give back to the horse community. Additionally, Colorado tax payers can check off Colorado's Unwanted Horse Fund on the state income tax form to donate, and the state of Colorado will forward the designated amount. CUHA has set up a number of ways to provide assistance to organizations engaged in the same or similar work and to get assistance from the general public as organizers seek to reduce the number of unwanted horses in Colorado.
The Colorado Unwanted Horse Alliance is a Colorado 501c3 nonprofit corporation formed in April 2008 to address the problem of unwanted horses in Colorado. CUHA conducts research concerning the number and status of Colorado's unwanted horses, educates the public concerning research findings, identifies and implements programs to address the unwanted horse population, provides information concerning the purchase, care and disposition of horses, and assists and supports federal, state and local organizations engaged in the same or similar work.
