The Coffee Shop Series meeting has been rescheduled for March 28 in Wilmore, Kan. Our original date had to be canceled because of heavy snow in the area Feb. 20. The topic for this year's meeting is Drought Recovery. Bob Gillen, head of K-State's Western Kansas Research Centers and stationed in Hays, will speak on Drought Impacts on Great Plains Grasslands.
Quite a bit of his presentation will focus on what to expect from the range as we "heal up" from the drought. Gillen has data from the 1950s drought and drought recovery from both the Hays Station and also USDA Southern Plains Station in Woodward where he was formerly on staff as a range specialist. Also as a part of our program we have a panel of four area ranchers who experienced the 50s drought. We expect they can add quite a bit of insight as to the timeframe of range recovery. Lunch will be served at 12 p.m. and the program will begin at 1 p.m. in the Wilmore Community Center.
The Coffee Shop Series is a joint effort of The Comanche Pool Prairie Resource Foundation, K-State Research and Extension, Area Soil Conservation Districts, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, and Kansas Wildlife and Parks.
