The Carthage Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 3,291 head March 4, compared to 1,412 head last week and 5,933 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to a very light test last week, steer and heifer calves were $5 to $10 higher, yearlings were $4 to $5 higher following last week's sharply lower trade. Demand was good, supply moderate to light. There was a higher percentage of yearling cattle in the offering than in recent sales. There were some positive signs for the cattle business as the weather improved. Slaughter steers and heifers traded $3 to $6 higher at $127.00 to $129.00 last week. The feeder supply included 57% steers, 37% heifers, 7% bulls, with 74% over 600 pounds.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350 to 400 lbs., 180.00 to 196.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 172.00 to 182.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 153.00 to 169.00, thin 172.00 to 178.00; 600 to 700 lbs., calves 132.00 to 141.00, 650 to 700 lbs., 140.00 to 147.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 133.50 to 140.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 124.00 to 134.00; 900 to 925 lbs., 123.00 to 130.75.
