Amarillo livestock auction summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 457 head March, 4, compared to 1,196 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

There were not enough recent sales of any class of cattle for an adequate market trend. Trade activity was light on light to moderate demand. Everyone was getting back on their regular schedule this week after the blizzard that brought 12 to 19 inches of snow to the area. The offering included a few loads of eight weight steers. Slaughter cows and bulls sold on good demand. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 6%, 1% replacements and 93% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 85% steers and bulls, 15% heifers, with nearly 83% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 375 to 400 lbs., 183.00 to 193.00; few 585 lbs., 150.50; Near three loads 889 lbs., 132.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 901 lbs., 128.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 492 lbs., 166.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 406 lbs., 164.00; few 462 lbs., 156.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 440 lbs., 154.00; few 690 lbs., 128.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 694 lbs., 119.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1400 to 1500 lbs., 79.00; high dressing, 77.25 to 78.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1300 to 1500 lbs., 88.00 to 90.50; high dressing, 78.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 84.50 to 86.00; high dressing, 87.50 to 89.00; low dressing, 80.00 to 82.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 83.50 to 84.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, individual 1655 lbs., 103.75.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 1000 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred, 1400.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 1100 lbs., with 75-lb. calf, 1100.00/pair.
