Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 629 head Feb. 28, compared to 1,298 head last week and 3,263 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to week ago, for the third week in a row, a snow storm across the trade area hindered delivery of receipts. Competition for light summer grazing calves remained strong. The few packages of 300- to 500-pound feeder steers and heifers on offer were mostly weaned and thin and sold $3 to $5 higher. There were no 500- to 600-pound steers and heifers available. Steers and heifers at 600 to 800 pounds were steady. Slaughter cows and bulls were $3 to $4 higher. Trade was active. Demand was good. The bulk supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 750-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 54% and slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows 1%, and feeders 45%. The feeder supply included 48% steers and 52% heifers, with nearly 57% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 303 to 312 lbs., pre-conditioned 203.00 to 212.00, few 390 lbs., fleshy 187.00; few 417 lbs., pre-conditioned 207.00; few 600 to 650 lbs., 148.00 to 151.50; 700 to 750 lbs., 141.50 to 144.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 400 to 450 lbs., thin 180.00 to 186.00; few 600 lbs., gaunt 145.00; few 790 lbs., full 130.00. Medium and large frame 2 few 445 lbs., 147.00; few 600 to 630 lbs., 139.00 to 141.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 450 to 500 lbs., 155.00 to 159.00; few 525 lbs., 148.00; 600 to 700 lbs., gaunt 137.00 to 139.00, few 645 lbs., fleshy 132.00; few 747 lbs., 131.25; few 786 lbs., fleshy 127.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350 to 400 lbs., thin 170.00 to 171.00; few 419 lbs., thin 159.00; few 542 lbs., gaunt 149.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1600 lbs., package 82.00; high dressing, 87.50 to 93.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 85.50 to 86.50; high dressing, 87.75 to 89.50, few 81.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 83.50 to 87.00; low dressing, 71.00 to 78.00. Lean, 85 to 90, package 968 lbs., 86.00.

Dairy slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1700 lbs., 83.00 to 84.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 76.00 to 82.00; high dressing, 84.00 to 85.25. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 80.00 to 84.50; low dressing, 64.50 to 75.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, high dressing, 1900 to 1950 lbs., 108.00 to 109.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 1300 to 1500 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, 1135.00 to 1235.00/head; young to middle-aged, 1440 lbs., 7 to 9 months bred, 1210.00/head.
