Family historians and genealogy researchers are invited to discover a wealth of information about institutional records and ethnic studies resources at “Research on the Range,” the 2013 Genealogy Conference of the Kansas Council of Genealogical Societies. The one-day event is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 8, at Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston, Kan. The Harvey County Genealogical Society will co-host.

This unique and valuable conference includes the expertise of a variety of archivists, curators and directors of libraries, museums, archives and special collections throughout Kansas.

Speakers include Art Binford, Quaker Collection at Friends University; Ashley Diaz, Emporia State University Archives; Jane Jones, Harvey County Historical Archives; John Thiesen, Mennonite Library & Archives at Bethel College; Lenora Lynam and Lorna Nelson, Swedish and Lutheran Records at the Lindsborg Old Mill Museum; Michelle Enke, Wulfmeyer Genealogy Collection at the Wichita Public Library; Patty Nicholas, Volga German Records at Fort Hays State University; and Randy Roberts, Pittsburg State University Archives.

The $45 conference registration fee includes a traditional Mennonite Faspa lunch and homemade ice cream, catered by Water’s Edge Restaurant of Hesston, as well as full-featured computer family tree and genealogy software programs and a demo version of Clooz 3.0. The public is invited to attend, and pre-registration by May 25 is required.
