Amarillo livestock auction summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, June 17, reported receipts of 1,225 head, compared to 900 head last week and 646 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

No accurate price trend comparison was available due to last week’s limited comparable sales, however a higher undertone noted. Trade activity and demand was moderate to good especially for the load lots and strings that were on offer. Slaughter cows and bulls were nearly steady. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 10%, less than 1% replacements and 89% feeders. The feeder supply included 84% steers and bulls, 16% heifers, with nearly 79% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 613 lbs., 143.00; few 700 to 746 lbs., 137.50, string 779 lbs., 138.50; load 862 lbs., 132.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, string 848 lbs., 127.50, few 851 lbs., 126.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 558 lbs., 132.50. Small and medium frame 3 to 4, few 576 lbs., 114.00. Feeder Holstein, Large frame 3, few 298 lbs., 76.50; few 355 lbs., 78.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 65.00 to 75.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 358 lbs., 170.00; few 470 to 480 lbs., 143.00 to 152.00; few 540 to 570 lbs., 136.00 to 144.50; few 698 lbs., 131.50; few 877 lbs., 115.00; few 906 lbs., 108.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 548 lbs., 126.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 144.00 to 147.50; few 560 lbs., 133.50; 650 to 700 lbs., 126.50 to 129.00; few 757 lbs., 126.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 240 lbs., 170.00; 300 to 360 lbs., 142.00 to 149.50; 450 to 500 lbs., 133.50 to 134.50; 550 to 600 lbs., 127.00 to 129.00; few 640 to 675 lbs., 121.00 to 123.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 535 lbs., 122.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1400 to 1655 lbs., 69.50 to 70.25; high dressing, 75.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 72.50 to 76.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 73.75 to 76.00; high dressing, 78.00 to 78.50; low dressing, 66.50 to 70.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 66.00 to 72.25; high dressing, 76.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1400 to 1750 lbs., 88.50 to 89.50; high dressing, individual 1905 lbs., 96.00; low dressing, 1400 to 1600 lbs., 77.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-age to aged, 1000 to 1100 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred, 1900.00 to 975.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young, 800 to 900 lbs., with 50- to 125-lb. calves, 1085.00 to 1410.00/pair. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, young, 800 to 900 lbs., with 50- to 125-lb. calves, 860.00 to 910.00/pair.
