Temple Grandin to speak in Dodge City


Temple Grandin, Ph.D., who is world renowned for her work with safe cattle handling and personal experience functioning with autism, will be speaking at two separate events on July 23 and 24 at the Magouirk Conference Center in Dodge City.

On July 23, Grandin will participate in a cattleman’s workshop, along with K-State Beef Institute Director, Dr. Dan Thomson, who will present “Stop the spread of affluenza.” Grandin will be presenting “The aspects of cattle handling and behavior,” and will also take part in a brief question and answer session following the presentation.

Lunch is included with the cattleman’s workshop and registration for the event begins at 11 a.m. Cost of the cattleman’s workshop is $30 per person, and limited space is available.

On July 24, Grandin will also be participating in an autism workshop that will include presentations by John Ketron, Clark County Sheriff’s Department, regarding awareness training for emergency response personnel. A presentation by Lee Sickle, director of TASN, Grandin, and a parent round table facilitated by Jeff Hiers are also on the agenda for the workshop.

Registration for the autism workshop begins at 7:30 a.m., and the cost to attend is $35 per person for parents and $50 per person for professionals. Lunch is included with the workshop fee.
