Springfield dairy heifer sales report

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 376 head July 23, compared to 378 head last month and 773 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Jefferson City, Mo.

Demand was moderate to good, supply moderate to light with near 8 percent springer heifers, 11 percent bred heifers, 20 percent open heifers, 27 percent milking cows, and 2 percent baby calves. The balance was steer/bull calves and weigh cows. The dispersals of two milking herds were in the offering. Packer Buyers purchased the bulk of these cows as there was only light interest from replacement buyers. Holsteins unless noted otherwise. Prices per head.

Springer heifers: Bred seven to nine months, Supreme individual 1525.00, Crossbred individual 1250.00. Approved 1100.00 to 1275.00, Crossbreds 925.00 to 1075.00. Medium 850.00 to 1060.00, Crossbreds 900.00 to 925.00. Bred three to six months, Supreme 1330.00 to 1490.00. Approved 1050.00 to 1285.00. Medium 850.00 to 1025.00, couple Jerseys 750.00 to 850.00. Bred one to three months, scarce.

Open heifers: Approved 175 to 190 lbs., Crossbreds 235.00 to 250.00; couple 458 lbs., 540.00; pkg 645 lbs., 690.00; pkg 883 lbs., 820.00. Medium pkg 227 lbs., Crossbreds 210.00; couple 582 lbs., 560.00.

Replacement cows: Fresh heifers and cows, Supreme individual 1375.00. Approved 1025.00 to 1250.00. Medium 800.00 to 960.00.

Springer cows: Supreme 1335.00 to 1400.00. Approved 1060.00 to 1110.00. Cows bred three to six months, Approved 980.00 to 1235.00, Medium 840.00 to 960.00.

Baby calves: Holstein heifers 150.00 to 190.00. Crossbred heifers 115.00 to 135.00, couple Jerseys 150.00 to 180.00. Holstein bulls 130.00 to 200.00, small 95.00 to 130.00. Crossbred bulls 145.00 to 160.00, small 75.00 to 110.00. Crossbred bulls 240.00 to 275.00.
