Amarillo livestock auction summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 544 head July 15, compared to 643 head last week and 383 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, not enough comparable sales of feeder steers or heifers for an adequate market trend. Trade activity and demand were moderate. Slaughter cows and bulls were weak to $2 lower on a light test. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 11%, 0% replacements and 89% feeders. The feeder supply included 35% steers and bulls, 65% heifers, with nearly 33% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 161.00 to 170.00; few 557 lbs., 157.00; few 633 lb. calves 142.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 478 lbs., 155.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 489 lbs., 140.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 317 lbs., 145.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 500 to 600 lbs., 152.00 to 160.00; few 722 lbs., 124.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 325 lbs., 164.00; few 793 lbs., 114.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 346 lbs., 169.00; 400 to 475 lbs., 145.00 to 156.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 142.00 to 149.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 450 to 500 lbs., 143.50 to 145.00; lot 782 lbs., 125.00; lot 805 lbs., fleshy 115.00. Medium and large frame 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 125.00 to 135.00; lot 518 lbs., 130.00; few 628 lbs., 120.50; few 753 lbs., 115.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 300 to 400 lbs., 112.00 to 120.00; few 659 lbs., 108.50.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1500 to 1700 lbs., 67.50 to 69.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 74.50 to 77.75; high dressing, 81.50 to 81.75; low dressing, 68.50 to 72.25. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 75.75 to 77.50; high dressing, 79.75; low dressing, 69.75 to 72.25; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 70.00 to 73.50; high dressing, 77.25; low dressing, 66.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1925 to 2030 lbs., 91.50 to 94.00; low dressing, 1743 to 2095 lbs., 80.00 to 84.00.
