McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,550 head July 9, compared to 935 head last week and 1,850 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer calves were $2 to $8 higher, except a few under 350 pounds were $5 lower. Heifer calves under 500 pounds were $4 to $12 higher; over 500 pounds were steady to $3 higher. Quality was average to mostly attractive. The supply includes 39% over 600 pounds with 39% heifers. Slaughter cows were $2 to $3 lower, except for lean cows that were steady to $1 higher. Slaughter bulls were $5 lower. A total of 140 cows and bulls sold with 59% going to packers.

Light, 16 head, 85 to 90% lean, 750 to 1000 lbs., 71.00 to 74.00; high dressing, 81.00 to 84.00; low dressing, 66.00 to 70.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 19 head, 1550 to 2200 lbs., 95.00 to 98.00; high dressing, 99.00 to 102.00; low dressing, 89.00 to 93.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 4 years old, 950 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality, 1050.00; 5 to 6 years old, 900 to 1025 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average quality, 800.00 to 935.00; 7 to 8 years old, 950 to 1250 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average quality, 900.00 to 935.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 4 years old, 900 to 925 lbs., with 100- to 250-lb calves, average quality, 1050.00 to 1170.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1000 to 1225 lbs., with 150- to 300-lb. calves, average quality, 1010.00 to 1270.00.
