Extension offers photography workshop to youth
Youth ages 9 to 19 who want to learn to take beautiful, inspiring photographs are encouraged to take part in one of two “Youth Photography” workshops being offered at the Oklahoma County OSU Cooperative Extension Service Thursday, July 18, in conjunction with Bedford Camera and Video.
“We’re happy to have the professionals from Bedford Camera and Video teaching this class,” said Lisa Hamblin, Educator at the Oklahoma County OSU Cooperative Extension Service. “We want to help young people learn the art of photography while encouraging them to take part in photography competitions like the ones being offered in the upcoming Oklahoma County Free Fair.”
The first Youth Photography workshop will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon for kids ages 9 to 12. The afternoon workshop, for youth ages 13 to 19, will get started at 1 p.m. and finish at 4 p.m.
“This workshop will teach youth the basics associated with using a camera, including how to use the camera’s controls,” Hamblin, who is a 4-H Youth-at-Risk and Family and Consumer Sciences Educator for the OSU Cooperative Extension Service, stated. “Participants will also learn more about composition, lighting and even color.”
Youth are asked to bring their cameras to the workshops so they can learn to take advantage of the many options offered by many of today’s new models.
The workshop will also help participants understand how to avoid common photography mistakes so they can get the best picture possible.
Participants in the workshop will also receive a camera-cleaning kit and other handouts made available by Bedford Camera and Video.
Both of the Youth Photography workshops require a $10 pre-registration fee to cover the cost of the course. Registration forms may be downloaded at the Oklahoma County OSU Cooperative Extension Service website at http://oces.okstate.edu/oklahoma.
