Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,567 head Dec. 20, compared to head last week and 1,891 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were mostly firm, with instances of fancy or value-added load lots $1 to $2 higher. Trade was active. Demand was good. Body condition on receipts was mostly thin or gaunt with a few moderate flesh. Slaughter cows and bulls $2 to $3 higher. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 450- to 825-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 16%, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows less than 1%, and feeders 83%. The feeder supply included 66% steers and 34% heifers, with nearly 47% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 365 lbs., 204.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 170.00 to 174.00, thin 183.00 to 192.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 172.00 to 173.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 166.00 to 167.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 153.00 to 158.00, few 611 lbs., 164.00, calves 148.00 to 152.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 149.50 to 154.00, few 726 lbs., calves 145.00; 800 to 825 lbs., 145.00 to 148.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 481 lbs., 159.00, few 492 lbs., 151.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 158.00 to 161.00; few 675 lbs., 145.00; load 799 lbs., gaunt 145.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 761 lbs., thin 135.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 152.00 to 159.00, few all natural 162.00 to 165.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 140.00 to 143.00; few 549 lbs., thin 152.50; few 672 lbs., 145.50; few 600 to 700 lbs., calves 138.50 to 139.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 141.00 to 143.00, few 780 lbs., 135.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 370 lbs., 151.00; few 492 lbs., 148.00; few 536 lbs., 141.00; few 700 to 800 lbs., 130.50 to 131.00; few 826 lbs., 126.00.

Slaughter cows: Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 76.00 to 79.00; high dressing, 80.50 to 83.50; low dressing, 70.50 to 72.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 76.00 to 79.00; low dressing, 70.50 to 73.00; 85 to 90% 800 to 1000 lbs., 71.00 to 77.00.

Dairy slaughter cows: Boning, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1600 lbs., 73.00 to 78.50; low dressing, 61.00 to 69.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1600 lbs., 71.00 to 77.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield Grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 1800 lbs., 91.00 to 97.00.
