Colorado feeder cattle summary

The Colorado Auction Feeder Cattle Summary, Greeley, Colo., reported receipts of 5,794 head Dec. 21, compared to 4,565 head last week and 5,606 head last year, according to the USDA-Colorado Department of Agriculture Market News, Greeley, Colo.

Compared to last week, feeder steers weighing 300 to 445 pounds traded unevenly steady, 450- to 800-pound steers traded mostly steady to $2 higher with instances of $8 to $10 higher on 450- to 600-pound steers. Heifers weighing 350 to 550 pounds traded mostly $6 to $10 higher with heifers weighing 550 to 700 pounds trading mostly $1 to $2 higher. There were not enough comparable sales from the previous week on yearling type heifers for an adequate market trend. Trading activity was moderate to active on moderate demand. The supply consisted of 58% steers and 42% heifers. Feeders over 600 pounds comprised 32% of the total supply.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 340 lbs., 207.00 to 218.00; 350 to 395 lbs., 185.00 to 210.00; 400 to 445 182.25 to 204.00; 450 to 495 lbs., 167.50 to 189.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 158.00 to 177.00; 550 to 590 lbs., 147.00 to 169.50; 600 to 645 lbs., 143.00 to 158.75, fancy 154.00 to 164.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 136.00 to 154.25; 700 to 735 lbs., 135.00 to 154.50; 774 lbs., 150.25. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 355 lbs., 188.00; 485 to 490 lbs., 153.00 to 158.00; 500 to 540 lbs., 146.00 to 158.00; 570 to 585 lbs., 141.00 to 157.00; 635 to 650 lbs., 139.00 to 148.75; 660 to 695 lbs., 122.50 to 149.75; 705 to 735 lbs., 145.50 to 146.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 350 to 390 lbs., 161.00 to 174.00, thin fleshed 176.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 160.00 to 168.00, fancy 170.00; 455 to 490 lbs., 155.00 to 168.50; 500 to 540 lbs., 146.00 to 155.00; fancy 158.00 to 159.50; 550 to 590 lbs., 138.00 to 148.50; 600 to 635 lbs., 141.00 to 144.00; 655 to 695 lbs., 130.50 to 138.00, value added 139.00; 855 to 895 lbs., 125.00 to 128.50; 943 lbs., 129.75.
