Ada livestock market report


The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada, Okla., reported receipts of 1,078 head Dec. 19, compared to 862 head last week, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, in a light test, steer and heifer calves were $5 to $10 higher. Yearling cattle were not established. Demand was very good for weaned calves in thin to average flesh. Overall quality was fairly good despite the relatively light run. Dry conditions persist and livestock water shortages were reported in many areas. Heifers made up 55% of supply and cattle over 600 pounds made up 33% of supply. Slaughter cows were $3 to $4 higher. Slaughter bulls were $2 to $3 higher. Packer demand was very good. Demand was also very good for bred cows, pairs and light cows suitable for turnout. Overall quality was average to attractive. The offering included 356 head of cows and bulls sold with 36% going to packers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 353 to 388 lbs., 191.00 to 203.00 (196.07); 9 head, 423 to 440 lbs., 174.00 to 180.00 (178.88); 14 head, 455 to 468 lbs., 171.00 to 179.00 (175.83); 515 to 548 lbs., 160.00 to 169.00 (167.03); 6 head, 555 to 565 lbs., 159.00 to 165.00 (162.92); 17 head, 603 to 645 lbs., 145.00 to 153.50 (149.13) calves; 652 to 689 lbs., 144.00 to 149.50 (147.16) calves. Medium and large frame 2, 10 head, 352 to 388 lbs., 180.00 to 188.00 (181.50); 6 head, 533 to 540 lbs., 140.00 to 157.50 (154.55).

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 13 head, 553 to 562 lbs., 159.00 to 166.00 (161.13); 6 head, 722 to 740 lbs., 132.50 to 135.00 (132.93) calves;. Medium and large frame 2, 7 head, 964 lbs., 108.00 calves.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 318 to 327 lbs., 173.00 to 179.00 (176.64); 11 head, 365 to 395 lbs., 160.00 to 163.50; 400 to 439 lbs., 154.00 to 164.00 (158.83); 450 to 498 lbs., 154.00 to 160.00 (156.80); 505 to 548 lbs., 152.00 to 157.00 (153.90); 5 head, 560 to 567 lbs., 144.00 to 147.00 (145.81); 16 head, 605 to 641 lbs., 135.50 to 141.00 (137.37) calves; 19 head, 652 to 672 lbs., 135.50 to 138.00 (137.19) calves; 9 head, 723 lbs., 130.75. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 39 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1325 to 1675 lbs., 76.00 to 78.50; high dressing, 80.00 to 84.00; low dressing, 70.00 to 75.00. Boners, 18 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1125 to 1475 lbs., 76.50 to 78.00; high dressing, 81.00 to 85.00; low dressing, 70.00 to 75.00. Lean, 25 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 74.00 to 77.00; high dressing, 78.00 to 79.50; low dressing, 68.00 to 73.00. Lights, 11 head, 85 to 90% lean, 825 to 975 lbs., 69.00 to 72.00; low dressing, 60.00 to 66.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 14 head, 1250 to 2100 lbs., 92.00 to 95.00; high dressing, 103.00; low dressing, 83.00 to 89.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 2 years old, 975 to 1200 lbs., 2 to 3 months bred, high blacks, 1140.00 to 1210.00; 1 to 2 years old, 925 to 1025 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 1020.00 to 1070.00; 5 to 8 years old, 950 to 1075 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 950.00 to 1020.00; 5 to 8 years old, 1250 to 1500 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 1130.00 to 1240.00; 5 to 8 years old, 900 to 1200 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average quality, 940.00 to 1080.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 7 years old, 975 to 1000 lbs., with 175- to 250-lb. calves, average quality, 1130.00 to 1160.00.
