Hay supplies light due to holiday closingsIn South Dakota, East River Area, all classes remain mostly steady. Good demand remains for all qualities of hay. There was light interest this week due in part to the holiday week, most markets were closed, according to the USDA-Market News Service, Dec. 28. East River area of South Dakota: Supreme alfalfa, large squares, $285; premium, large rounds, $280; good, large squares and rounds, $225-$250; fair/good, large rounds, $250; fair, large rounds, $240. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 16% $315, 15% $305. Alfalfa meal, 17% $318. Premium grass, large rounds, $260, large rounds, $220; good, large rounds, $150. Oat hay, large squares, $150. Cornstalks, large rounds, $70-$75. Wheat straw, large squares, $115-$120. Rock Valley Iowa: Supreme alfalfa, large rounds, $280-$295; premium, large squares, $245-$285, large rounds, $245-$295; fair, large rounds, $135-$170.
