Hands-on AI tech school offeredColorado WW Feed & Supply will hold a beef artificial insemination technician school on Jan. 10 to 12, 2013, near Center, Colo. The cost is $200 for the hands-on session. In addition to opening demonstrations, participants will have hands-on practice of handling frozen semen and will inseminate live cows and heifers at T-Heart Ranch's heated facility. Instructors will be Curt Russell of WW Feed, and Marty House of Select Sires Mid-America, one of the leading bovine genetics companies in the U.S. "With the high cost of feed and replacement bulls, and the uncertainty of how much pasture you will have available this spring and how many cows you may have, this could be an excellent year to try Artificial Insemination," said Russell, who offers the school only every few years. "With the advances in estrous synchronization protocols that have been made in recent years, as well as the improved accuracy of EPDs available through DNA testing, AI is now easier, simpler and more effective than ever." AI more rapidly improves the quality of your breeding herd. In addition to the genetic boost, AI enables ranchers to get cows and heifers bred early in the breeding season to the ideal bull for your situation, and have a more uniform calf crop. Class size is limited to allow for one-on-one teaching and repetitive practice. Registration is now open by calling 719-384-4463. Date: 1/7/2013
