Denver lands Rodeo All-Star WeekendThe nation's top-ranked cowboys and cowgirls will ride into Denver from April 4 to 6 to compete in the first Rodeo All-Star Weekend at the National Western Stock Show Complex. The three-day event will host seven top-level competitions and offer visitors a chance to meet rodeo stars and enjoy a weekend of fan activities including live music, interactive exhibits, and pre and post event parties. The Rodeo All-Star Weekend will kick-off with a launch party at the world famous Grizzly Rose on April 4, honoring contestants for their selection as a Rodeo All Star. On April 5, NWSS Complex grounds open to the public at 4 p.m. for an evening of pre-competition activities. At 7:30 p.m., round one of the rodeo semi-final competition begins with a single elimination Rodeo All-Star format. The April 4 events begin at the NWSS Complex Expo Hall with "Breakfast with Champions," a unique event allowing fans to meet rodeo's top stars and legends of yesteryear. "Breakfast of Champions" is a separately ticketed event. The second semi-final round begins at 2:30 p.m. The Rodeo All-Star finals begin at 7:30 p.m. All-Star Weekends are popular sporting events nationwide, netting host cities significant profits in tourism revenue. Denver will be the host to Rodeo All-Star Weekend each year. Rodeo started in Deer Trail, Colo., in 1869. The first rodeo at the National Western was held in 1931. "Rodeo All-Star Weekend marks another historic rodeo event for Colorado," said Paul Andrews, president and CEO of the National Western Stock Show. "All-Star weekends are always exciting, and a great time for fans and host cities. "Denver is the home of the best rodeo in the country and the perfect place for an All-Star celebration. We're creating a new tradition at the National Western Stock Show Complex and are excited to offer another successful tourism staple in Denver." Top rodeo committees throughout North America will choose All-Star contestants. Additionally, two competitors from each of the seven events--Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc, Team Roping, Tie-Down Roping, Steer Wrestling, Barrel Racing and Bull Racing--will be selected by fans' online votes later this year. The top 128 contestants will compete for the $140,000 grand prize. Season tickets for the Rodeo All-Star Weekend are on sale now at www.rodeoallstar.com.
