Denver Mayor Hancock to lead NWSS parade as Grand Marshal

The 107th National Western Stock Show has announced that Denver Mayor Michael Hancock is the 2013 Grand Marshal for the annual Stock Show Kick-Off Parade, Jan. 10.

"Working with Mayor Hancock and his staff over the past 12 months in regard to the future of the National Western made our selection of a Grand Marshal an easy one," said Paul Andrews, NWSS president and CEO. "He has demonstrated his passion and commitment to the National Western and continues to provide leadership as we work to the future."

Hancock will lead the nearly century-old tradition of Longhorn cattle, horses, and western wagons through the streets of Downtown Denver to celebrate the start of the 107th National Western Stock Show, which runs Jan. 12 to 27.

The parade begins at noon at Union Station and marches 15 blocks down 17th Street. The National Western's Kick-Off Parade offers an exciting opportunity to experience a sampling of Stock Show activities and events, including bands, floats and performing cowgirls and cowboys.

The Stock Show Barbecue is held in conjunction with the downtown parade. Beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the atrium of the Wells Fargo Building at 17th Street and Broadway, visitors can listen to western music and catch a VIP western fashion show, all while eating some of the West's best barbecue. The barbecue is open to the public and benefits the 4-H International Youth group. Meal tickets are $9.

For more information, please contact the National Western Stock Show at 303-297-1166 or visit nationalwestern.com.
