Order seedling trees now

Being inside due to the cold winter weather is a good time to begin planning those spring planting projects. The Colorado State University Extension Offices in the Southeast Area are kicking off the 2013 seedling tree program. We have a wide variety of windbreak trees available to order from your local Colorado State University Extension Office.

The program enables farmers, ranchers, and rural landowners who have two or more acres of land to obtain trees at nominal cost. The program's aim is to encourage landowners to establish effective windbreaks to reduce soil erosion, protect homes, cropland, livestock and enhance wildlife habitat. The trees and shrubs are grown for their conservation benefits only.

Tree care supplies are sold at the La Junta Colorado State Forest Service office. They can be contacted at 719-384-5780 for more information.

Order forms are available at your local Colorado State University Extension Office. In Otero County they may be picked up at 411 North 10th Street in Rocky Ford or by calling 719-254-7608. In Crowley County they may be picked up at the Courthouse Annex, 603 Main Street in Ordway or by calling 719-267-5243. The order forms are also available at

Orders will be taken until March 1, 2013, with the seedlings arriving in mid-March.
