McAlester livestock market report


The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipt of 1,740 head Jan. 22, compared to 1,200 head last week and 1,500 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer calves were $1 to $6 lower. Heifer calves were steady to $4 lower. Quality was average to many attractive. The supply includes 3% over 600 pounds, with 50% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $3 higher, packer demand good and improved from last week. A total of 170 cows and bulls sold with 71% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 15 head, 1400 to 2200 lbs., 94.00 to 97.00; high dressing, 98.00 to 102.00; low dressing, 89.00 to 93.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 4 years old, 900 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, average quality 960.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1075 to 1325 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality 1230.00 to 1300.00; 7 to 8 years old, 975 to 1200 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, average quality 1020.00 to 1225.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality 1135 to 1160.00; 9 to 10+ years old, 1175 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality 935.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., with 300- to 400-lb. calves, average to high quality 1400.00 to 1675.00; 5 to 6 years old, 975 to 1150 lbs., with 100- to 275-lb. calves, average to high quality 1100.00 to 1375.00; 7 to 8 years old, 925 to 1075 lbs., with 75- to 150-lb. calves, average to high quality 1010.00 to 1150.00.
