Pratt livestock auction report

Pratt Livestock Feeder Cattle Auction, Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 3,304 head, Jan. 17, compared to 4,009 head, last week and 3,354 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, steers at 650 to 900 pounds were $7 to $9 lower. Heifers at 650 to 900 pounds were $5 to $7 lower, and steers at 650 pounds and under were in a limited supply but a lower undertone was noted. Heifers at 650 pounds and under were steady to weak on limited supply. Trade was moderate and demand light for feeder-type cattle. Receipts included 76% 600 pounds and over, 19% 600 pounds and under, 5% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply was 74% steers and 26% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 73.00 to 76.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 74.00 to 80.00; high dressing, 83.00; low dressing, 71.50 to 73.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 72.50 to 77.00; high dressing, 79.50 to 83.00; low dressing, 66.00 to 70.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 90.00 to 97.00; high dressing, 101.00 to 107.50; low dressing, 82.00 to 88.00.
