Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman's Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,483 head Jan. 17, compared to 2,286 head two weeks ago and 2,669 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to two weeks ago, feeder steers and heifers under 600 pounds were steady to $3 higher, steers 600 to 700 pounds were steady to $2 lower, and steers over 700 pounds and heifers over 600 pounds were $2 to $5 lower. Slaughter cows were steady. There was no comparison on slaughter bulls. Trade and demand were moderate to good. The feeder supply consisted of several consignments of thin, long weaned calves that were in good demand and noted highest price levels. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 19%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows than 2%, and feeders 78%. The feeder supply included 48% steers and 52% heifers, with nearly 55% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 283 lbs., 238.00; few 310 lbs., 237.00, few 348 lbs., 219.00; 400 to 415 lbs., 208.00 to 211.00, 460 to 500 lbs., 184.00 to 187.00; 500 to 535 lbs., 177.00 to 182.00, 550 to 600 lbs., 163.00 to 169.25; few 634 lbs., 150.00, 650 to 700 lb. calves 146.00 to 155.00; few 737 lb. calves 145.00, 750 to 800 lbs., 144.25 to 146.50, few 799 lb. calves 141.50; few 855 lb 135.50; few 900 to 906 lbs., 131.00 to 132.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 391 lbs., 193.00; few 400 to 500 lbs., 176.00 to 186.00; few 500 to 525 lbs., 169.00 to 170.00; few 630 lbs., 151.00; few 717 lbs., 142.50; 850 to 900 lbs., 133,00 to 133.50. Medium and large frame 2, few 490 lbs., 166.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1365 to 1495 lbs., 78.00; high dressing, 84.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 76.00 to 79.25; high dressing, 80.00 to 83.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 76.50; low dressing, 71.50 to 72.00.

Dairy slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1940 lbs., 78.00. Boning, 75 to 80% lean, 1500 to 1800 lbs., 73.00 to 75.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 71.00 to 74.50; low dressing, 69.00 to 69.75.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1500 to 2000 lbs., 98.000 to 100.50; high dressing, 101.00 to 105.00; low dressing, 93.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged to aged, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 965.00 to 1100.000/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, middle-aged, 1200 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, 1310.000/pair.
