Ada livestock auction report

The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada Okla., reported receipts of 1,176 head Jan. 16, compared to 1,267 head last week and 1,507 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, calves were mostly steady to firm. There was no recent adequate test of yearling cattle for comparison. Demand was very good for weaned calves in thin to average flesh. The offering included 29% over 600 pounds, with 48% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady to $1 higher. Packer demand was good. A total of 205 cows and bulls sold with 49% going to packers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 265 to 290 lbs., 210.00 to 220.00 (216.07); 7 head, 300 to 340 lbs., 210.00 to 220.00 (213.75); 8 head, 355 to 390 lbs., 196.00 to 204.00 (199.28); 10 head, 352 to 363 lbs., 210.00 to 215.00 (211.96) thin fleshed; 18 head, 405 to 447 lbs., 191.00 to 205.00 (196.31); 450 to 483 lbs., 184.00 to 195.00 (190.40); 500 to 543 lbs., 174.00 to 186.00 (180.37); 17 head, 558 to 580 lbs., 158.00 to 173.00 (162.43); 15 head, 620 to 649 lbs., 150.00 to 156.00 (153.00) calves; 9 head, 653 to 660 lbs., 149.00 to 152.50 (152.11) calves; 6 head, 673 lbs., 143.00 to 144.00 (143.50) fleshy; 14 head, 727 lbs., 146.50; 6 head, 858 lbs., 139.00. Medium and large frame 2, 5 head, 517 to 540 lbs., 156.00 to 160.00 (158.36); 10 head, 550 to 595 lbs., 144.00 to 157.00 (148.73).

Lights, 12 head, 85 to 90% lean, 775 to 950; high dressing, 70.50 to 72.00; high dressing, 76.00; low dressing, 65.00 to 69.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 25 head, 1225 to 2250 lbs., 95.50 to 99.00; high dressing, 104.50; low dressing, 89.00 to 94.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 2 years old, 1200 to 1225 lbs., 7 months bred, high black, 1330.00 to 1360.00; 5 to 8 years old, 1050 to 1200 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average black, 1040.00 to 1230.00; 9 + years old, 1000 to 1175 lbs., 7 months bred, average black, 1000.00 to 1030.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 6 to 8 years old, 900 to 1150 lbs., with 100- to 245-lb. calves, average quality, 1110.00 to 1230.00.
