Extension to hold Risk Assessed Workshops in HaysKansas Is crop insurance confusing to you, and marketing your grain even more overwhelming? If so there is help out there, come to Hays on Feb. 6 or 7 and learn from Extension specialists Art Barnaby and Dan O'Brien. RAM I, "The Basics," is designed for participants that are new to pre-harvest selling using marketing tools and have a limited understanding of the crop insurance contract. Participants that are more interested in a more in-depth workshop experience should consider participation in a RAM II rather than RAM I, "The Basics" workshop. Both of these workshops utilize a case study, with participant's managing a typical grain farm. Participants will have the opportunity to select type and level of crop insurance, decide on Farm Service Agency program participation, and then work through a typical grain marketing year. In the RAM I Workshop the case study tools will be limited to cash sales, forward contract and/or puts. The RAM II program will involve more sophisticated marketing strategies and risk-management tools. RSVP and registration fee are requested by Feb. 1 by calling the Ellis County Extension Office at 785-628-9430, or email Theresa at tam3@ksu.edu. Date: 1/28/2013
