Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 320 head Jan. 14, compared to 928 head last week and 822 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $1 to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were not well tested. Feeder steers and heifers were $1 to $4 lower. The supply included 160 feeder calves, 101 feeder yearlings, 15 replacement cows, 41 slaughter cows, 3 slaughter bulls, and 0 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% Exotic breed and Exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 74.00 to 78.50; high dressing, 79.00 to 81.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 78.00 to 82.50; high dressing, 83.00 to 87.00; low dressing, 73.00 to 77.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 76.00 to 80.50; high dressing, 81.00 to 85.00; low dressing, 71.00 to 75.50. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 59.00 to 63.50; high dressing, 64.00 to 68.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 88.50.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 315 to 345 lbs., 198.00 to 211.00 (204.20); 350 to 380 lbs., 199.00 to 205.00 (201.93); 420 to 445 lbs., 188.00 to 195.00 (189.86); 455 to 495 lbs., 170.00 to 176.00 (173.00); 500 to 535 lbs., 166.00 to 178.00 (173.27); 550 to 555 lbs., 160.00 to 168.00 (164.68); 615 to 625 lbs., 150.00 to 157.00 (154.83); 670 to 680 lbs., 144.00 to 146.00 (145.01). Medium and large frame 2, 310 to 330 lbs., 184.00 to 195.00 (187.76); 355 to 375 lbs., 190.00 to 195.00 (192.37); 400 to 435 lbs., 175.00 to 183.00 (178.89); 450 to 495 lbs., 160.00 to 168.00 (164.08).

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1+ to 2 years old, 700 to 950 lbs., open cows, 91.00 to 114.00; 2 to 7 years old, 900 to 1500 lbs., open cows, 75.00 to 87.00; 7+ years old, 900 to 1200 lbs., open cows, 63.50 to 73.50; 2 to 7 years old, 1050 to 1150 lbs., first, second and third, 85.00 to 95.00; 7+ years old, 1050 to 1200 lbs., second and third stage, 61.00 to 66.50.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 7 years old, 850 to 1100 lbs., with 200- to 300-lb. calves, 1050.00 to 1125.00/pair.
