Amarillo livestock auction summary


The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 537 head Jan. 14, compared to 1,311 head last week and 954 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

There were not enough comparable sales on any class of cattle for an adequate market trend. A lower undertone was noted on a few loads of yearling heifers available in the offering. Trade activity and demand were light to moderate. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 2%, less than 1% replacements and 98% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 18% steers and bulls, 82% heifers, with nearly 83% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 617 lbs., 150.00; lot 680 lbs., calves, 152.00; lot 784 lbs., 143.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 912 lbs., 129.00. Holsteins, Large frame 3, few 559 lbs., 88.00; few 671 lbs., 91.00; few 717 lbs., 90.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 790 lbs., 134.50.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 450 to 500 lbs., 145.00 to 146.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 134.00 to 135.00; few 802 lbs., 129.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350 to 400 lbs., 165.00 to 173.00; load 723 lbs., 127.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 131.50 to 133.25. Medium and large frame 2, 650 to 700 lbs., 120.00 to 121.00; few 835 lbs., 117.50; lot 917 lbs., 111.50.

Slaughter cows: Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1700 lbs., 79.50; high dressing, 82.50; low dressing, 69.00 to 73.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 68.00 to 71.75.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young individual, 1000 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, 960.00.
