Tulia livestock auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 1,014 head Jan. 10, compared to 762 head last week and 1,807 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold mostly steady on very limited comparable sales. Trade activity was fairly active on good demand. The offering included several loads of yearling steers. Slaughter cows were steady and slaughter bulls were not well tested in the last sale. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 4%, 1% replacements and 95% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 69% steers and bulls, 31% heifers, with nearly 80% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 551 lbs., 166.00; 600 to 675 lbs., 154.50 to 155.00, lot 697 lb. calves, 152.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 149.25 to 150.50, lot 796 lb. calves, 143.50; 800 to 875 lbs., 144.00 to 147.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 327 lbs., 196.00; lot 520 lbs., 167.50; 550 to 600 lbs., 155.00 to 156.00; lot 630 lbs., 154.75; lot 685 lbs., 148.00; 700 to 725 lbs., 147.00 to 152.00; few 827 lbs., 145.00; 850 to 900 lbs., 137.50 to 138.00; few 922 lbs., 136.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 672 lbs., 136.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 605 lbs., 135.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 362 lbs., 161.00; few 407 lbs., 166.50; 450 to 500 lbs., 158.50 to 161.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 148.00 to 150.00; 600 to 650 lb. calves, 137.50 to 144.50, few 631 lbs., full 135.50; few 689 lb. calves, 131.00; lot 716 lb. calves, 134.50; few 757 lbs., 136.00; half load 806 lbs., 133.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 363 lbs., 155.00, few 372 lbs., thin fleshed 170.00; 475 to 500 lbs., 147.00 to 159.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 148.50 to 152.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 130.00 to 137.50; 700 to 775 lbs., 131.50 to 134.00; few 885 lbs., 119.00; few 914 lbs., 116.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1550 lbs., 74.00 to 75.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 77.00 to 80.25; high dressing, 82.50 to 84.50; low dressing, 71.00 to 75.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 76.00; high dressing, 80.50; low dressing, 74.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1740 to 2015 lbs., 94.50 to 97.00; low dressing, 1560 to 2140 lbs., 88.75 to 93.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged to aged, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred, 1110.00 to 1285.00/head.
