Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,286 head Jan. 10, compared to 704 head last week and 2,862 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to week ago, feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady to weak compared to limited receipts of a week ago, a few load lots of fancier kinds on offer sold firm. Slaughter cows were firm. Slaughter bulls were not well tested. Trade and demand were moderate to good. Body condition on receipts was mostly moderate flesh with a few thin. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 860-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 25%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1%, and feeders 75%. The feeder supply included 68% steers and 32% heifers, with nearly 61% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 450 lbs., 191.00 to 196.00, pre-conditioned 204.00 to 205.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 181.50 to 187.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 164.00 to 173.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 151.00 to 159.50; two packages 745 to 781 lbs., 147.00 to 147.75, three loads 764 lbs., 151.50; 800 to 900 lbs., 142.00 to 143.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 300 to 400 lbs., 185.00 to 190.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 173.50 to 174.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 153.00 to 160.00; few 661 lbs., 145.00; few 800 to 850 lbs., 137.00 to 139.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 400 to 500 lbs., 168.00 to 173.00; few 530 lbs., 151.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 368 lbs., 171.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 155.00 to 160.00, pre-conditioned 166.50 to 169.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 144.00 to 151.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 140.00 to 145.00, few 694 lbs., 137.00; few 800 to 815 lbs., 133.00 to 134.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 272 lbs., 160.00; few 377 lbs., 151.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 150.00 to 153.00, few 489 lbs., 145.50; few 550 to 600 lbs., 140.00 to 144.00; few 600 to 650 lbs., 134.00 to 139.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 130.00 to 138.00. Medium and large frame 2, 450 to 500 lbs., 136.00 to 139.00; few 687 lbs., 127.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1550 lbs., 74.00 to 78.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 74.25 to 79.50; high dressing, 80.50 to 82.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 78.00 to 81.00; low dressing, 73.00 to 74.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 71.00 to 78.5; low dressing, 68.00 to 69.00.

Dairy slaughter cows: Boning, 75 to 80% lean, 1100 to 1600 lbs., 72.50 to 76.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 71.50 to 73.00; low dressing, 68.50 to 70.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 1800 lbs., not well tested.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Young to middle-aged, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 7 to 9 months bred, 910.00 to 1125.00/head; middle-aged to aged, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 7 to 9 months bred, 875.00 to 1200.00/head.
