Ada livestock auction report

The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada, Okla., reported receipts of 1267 head Jan. 9, compared to 1,078 head three weeks ago, and 1,325 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to the last sale, steer and heifer calves were $3 to $6 higher except heifers under 400 pounds were up to $10 higher. Yearling cattle were not tested. Demand was very good for good quality weaned calves. Long weaned, thin calves were in short supply with most in average to fleshy condition. Heifers made up 46% of supply and cattle over 600 pounds comprised 30% of offerings. Slaughter cows and bulls were $2 to $3 higher. Packer demand was good. Demand also good for replacement and turn to out cows. Overall quality average to good. The sale included 333 cows and bulls, with about 50% going to packers.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 10 head, 392 to 396 lbs., 190.00; 8 head, 744 lbs., 143.00; 9 head, 915 lbs., 135.50. Medium and large frame 2, 13 head, 458 to 495 lbs., 165.00 to 180.00 (173.63); 7 head, 600 lbs., 144.00 calves; 9 head, 671 to 681 lbs., 130.00 to 136.00 (133.36) calves; 6 head, 770 to 782 lbs., 130.50 to 134.00 (131.08).

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 26 head, 1325 to 2150 lbs., 93.50 to 98.00; high dressing, 99.50 to 103.50; low dressing, 84.00 to 92.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 8 years old, 1100 to 1375 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average black, 1040.00 to 1180.00; 5 to 8 years old, 925 to 1275 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average quality, 920.00 to 1120.00; 9 + years old, 975 to 1225 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average black, 940.00 to 1060.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 7 to 8 years old, 1050 to 1275 lbs., with 200- to 250-lb. calves, average black, 1360.00 to 1490.00.
