Newell sheep sales report


St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 2,138 head Jan. 10, compared to 1,838 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Due to the holidays, the Newell sheep sale was not recently reported, although much higher undertones were noted. There was very good demand for several long strings and many packages of feeder lambs which sold on a very active market. The offering consisted of 86% feeder lambs, 1% bred ewes, and 13% slaughter ewes and Bucks.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 19 head, 121 to 129 lbs., 106.00 to 112.00 (109.70); 20 head, 153 lbs., 95.00.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 47 head, 164 lbs., 47.00. Good 3 to 4, fleshy; 27 head, 206 lbs., 45.50. Utility 1 to 2, medium, 41 head, 148 lbs., 46.50. Cull 1, thin, 29 head, 134 lbs., 40.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 73 to 78 lbs., 139.00 to 146.00 (143.92); 80 to 88 lbs., 140.00 to 146.00 (143.86); 90 to 96 lbs., 136.00 to 145.00 (141.83); 104 to 109 lbs., 123.50 to 128.50 (126.87); 49 head, 101 lbs., 131.00 ewe lambs; 8 head,, 110 lbs., 114.00. Medium and large frame 2, 7 head, 53 lbs., 139.00; 63 to 66 lbs., 131.00 to 137.00 (135.38).

Bred ewes: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Crossbred, 16 head, 2 to Solid, 169 lbs., due March 25 120.00.
