Amarillo livestock auction summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,311 head Jan. 7, compared to 593 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

There were no recent comparable sales in any class due to the sale being closed for two weeks during the holiday season. Trade activity and demand were moderate to good. The area remains dry. Slaughter cows and bulls traded with a higher undertone compared to the last sale three weeks ago. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 5%, 2% were replacements and 93% feeders. The feeder supply included 42% steers and bulls, 58% heifers, with nearly 78% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 358 lbs., 207.00; few 436 lbs., 188.00; few 472 lbs., 175.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 159.50 to 162.00; 600 to 700 lb. calves 150.00 to 156.50; lot 734 lb. calves 151.50; lot 878 lbs., 144.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2 few 323 lbs., 203.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 146.00 to 148.50; lot 758 lbs., 149.50; 800 to 850 lbs., 139.50 to 144.75. Medium and large frame 2 to 3 600 to 700 lbs., 130.50 to 133.00. Holsteins, Large frame 3, few 330 lbs., 80.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 83.00 to 91.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 81.00 to 90.00; few 484 lbs., 94.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 372 lbs., 184.00; few 572 lbs., 142.00; few 605 lbs., 135.00; 700 to 775 lbs., 130.00 to 132.50; few 803 lbs., 131.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 537 lbs., 133.00; few 691 lbs., 130.50.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1550 lbs., 77.00 to 78.50; high dressing, 78.75 to 79.00; low dressing, 72.00 to 74.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 76.00 to 79.50; high dressing, 83.00 to 87.25; low dressing, 73.50; Individual 90.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 78.50 to 79.75; high dressing, 81.75 to 85.00; low dressing, 70.00 to 75.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 66.00 to 69.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to aged, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 1 to 9 months bred, 1050.00 to 1185.00. Medium and large frame 2, young to middle-aged, 1000 to 1100 lbs., 6 to 9 months, 800.00 to 850.00.
