McAlester livestock auction reportThe McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,580 head Jan. 8, compared to 2,025 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to the last sale, steer calves were $3 to $6 higher. Heifer calves under 550 pounds were steady to $2 higher, over 550 pounds were $3 lower. Quality was average to attractive, mostly attractive. The supply included 34% over 600 pounds with 51% heifers. Slaughter cows were $1 to $3 higher, except breakers were $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were $2 higher. Packer demand was good. A total of 320 cows and bulls sold with 69% going to packers.
