Pratt livestock auction report

The Pratt Livestock Feeder Cattle Auction, Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 768 head, Jan. 3, compared to 2,558 head, last year, according to USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

This was the first sale of the New Year. With the winter snow storm that hit, the supply was extremely limited with most of the cattle Medium and large frame 1 to 2. There were not enough cattle of any weight class for a market test. Few slaughter cows and bulls, had a higher undertone noted. Trade was light and demand moderate. Receipts included 85% 600 pounds and over, 4% 600 pounds and under, 11% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply was 81% steers and 13% heifers.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 51 head, 906 lbs., 148.35. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 550 to 600 lbs., 160.00 to 162.00 (160.76); 11 head, 627 lbs., 151.00; 17 head, 745 lbs., 147.85; 750 to 800 lbs., 145.00 to 146.75 (146.44); 800 to 850 lbs., 145.00 to 147.50 (146.28); 850 to 900 lbs., 145.50 to 147.50 (146.75); 7 head, 924 lbs., 143.00. Medium and large frame 2, 6 head, 688 lbs., 145.25; 11 head, 893 lbs., 135.00. Large frame 2 to 3, 6 head, 875 lbs., 117.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1 to 2 550 to 600 lbs., 140.00 to 144.00 (141.59); 9 head, 665 lbs., 139.50; 7 head, 747 lbs., 136.50; 15 head, 870 lbs., 129.50. Medium and large frame 2, 9 head, 811 lbs., 121.00. Large frame 2, 9 head, 1185 lbs., 107.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young, 2nd trimester, 1060 to 1177 lbs., 1175.00 to 1250.00 (1229.74) per head; 9 head, 3rd trimester 1134 lbs., 1375.00 per head.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 79.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 77.00 to 79.50; high dressing, 83.00 to 85.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 75.00 to 79.50; high dressing, 80.00 to 83.00; low dressing, 65.00 to 72.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 99.00; high dressing, 102.00 to 104.00.
