Kansas Cattlemen ballot results tabulated

Kansas

The Kansas Cattlemen's Association membership ballots have been tallied, and the KCA membership has passed policy and elected four new directors to the Board. All resolutions that were up for renewal, modified and newly proposed were passed by the membership. There was a new bylaw proposal on the ballot (ballot item number 30) which stated that all voting members of the association must be a current paid member prior to the start of the annual meeting to receive voting rights and to receive a ballot for that year. The newly proposed bylaw did pass and will take effect immediately. There was also a bylaw modification proposed on the ballot (ballot item number 31). This modification was to transition to the newly elected Board within 90 days of the annual meeting or at the first scheduled Board meeting. This modification did fail and the current by-law will remain in effect, and the transition of the Board will remain in April.

Directors-elect are Tony Anderson, Farlington; DJ Edwards, Hamilton; Gary Schreiber, Soldier. All were voted in to serve a three-year term, and David Leaming, Minneola, will serve a one-year term to fill the current vacant seat on the Board.

This year, there was also a question to the membership regarding affiliation. Although this was not a bylaw or resolution, it was presented to inform the Board of Directors as to wishes of the membership. Based off of the ballots responses, the Board of Directors has decided that when KCA affiliations expire, KCA will not be a state affiliate of any national group and will stand as an independent association representing the independent cattlemen of Kansas. KCA will continue to work with national groups when possible.
