AgriLife Extension to offer rangeland resource sessions


Cattlemen can choose one or all of the upcoming sessions to be offered as a part of the "BEEF 2015: Rangeland Resource Management" series hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Potter County.

Brandon Boughen, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Potter County, said the sessions are aimed at beef cattle operations with an emphasis in wildlife.

Each month the meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a meal beginning at 5:30 p.m., Boughen said. The first meeting was Jan. 10 and the final on Sept. 5. All activities will be held at the AgriLife Extension office for Potter County, 3301 E. 10th Ave. in Amarillo.

Every participant will receive "Grazing Land Stewardship, A Manual for Texas Landowners" and be eligible to receive seven Beef Quality Assurance credits and six pesticide applicator continuing education units, he said.

Preregistration is required, whether attending the entire series or just one session, Boughen said, for meal planning purposes.

Feb. 21--The Beef Herd, Ted McCollum, AgriLife Extension beef specialist in Amarillo.

March 7--Livestock/Wildlife Interaction, McCollum and Ken Cearley, AgriLife Extension wildlife specialistin Amarillo.

April 25--Landscape Management. Cearley and McCollum.

May 23--Brush and Broadleaf Management, McCollum.

June 20--Practical Application of Management Tools, Jim Ansley, Texas A&M AgriLife Research range ecologist in Vernon.

July 11--Coping with Hogs and Predators, Cearley.

Aug. 29--Quail and Prairie Chickens, Cearley.

Sept. 5--Deer and Antelope, Cearley.
