McAlester Union livestock market report

The McAlester Union Livestock, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,085 head Jan. 29, compared to 1,740 head last week and 1,300 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steers under 650 pounds were $1 to $4 lower, over 650 pounds were $3 to $4 lower. Heifers were steady to $4 higher. Quality was average. The supply includes 23% over 600 pounds, with 49% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were $1 higher. Packer demand was good for lighter receipts. A total of 155 cows and bulls sold with 70% going to packers.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 4 years old, 1025 to 1375 6 to 8 months hi quality ( 1200.00 to 1360.00; 1 to 4 years old, 1075 to 1150 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality 1050.00 to 1200.00; 5 to 6 years old, 975 to 1125 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average quality 980.00 to 1115.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 975 to 1000 lbs., with 75- to 125-lb. calves, average to high quality 1010.00 to 1260.00; 7 to 8 years old, 900 to 1175 lbs., with 125- to 150-lb. calves, average quality 900.00 to 1180.00.
