Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 1,465 head Jan. 24, compared to 2,138 head two weeks ago and 628 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. The sale was not reported last week, so comparisons were made from two weeks ago. Feeder lambs at 70 to 79 pounds were $10 higher, and over 80 pounds were $6 to $8 higher. Slaughter ewes were lightly tested, a lower undertone was noted. Good demand for several long strings and many packages which sold on a very strong, active market. The offering consisted of 81 % feeder lambs, 11% bred ewes, 8% slaughter ewes and bucks. Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Good and Choice 1 to 2, 8 head, 188 lbs., 91.00. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, Fleshy, 30 head, 168 lbs., 40.50. Cull 1, Thin, 15 head, 131 lbs., 25.00. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 50 head, 65 lbs., 162.00; 72 to 77 lbs., 153.00 to 161.50 (159.03); 80 to 87 lbs., 146.50 to 153.50 (150.73); 22 head, 99 lbs., 139.00; 9 head, 96 lbs., 130.00 poor fleeces; 100 to 109 lbs., 131.00 to 138.50 (135.89); 113 to 114 lbs., 129.50 to 130.00 (129.69); 22 head, 124 lbs., 122.50. Medium and large frame 2, 9 head, 56 lbs., 144.00. Medium frame 1 to 2, 59 head, 79 lbs., 143.00 to 144.00 (143.27).
