Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,778 head Jan. 24, compared to 1,483 head last week and 2,443 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to week ago, feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady except heifers at 600 to 700 pounds were $2 lower. Slaughter cows with more fill were steady, high dressing cows were $2 to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. Trade and demand were moderate to good. Buyers continued to show good interest in summer grazing cattle in spite of continued lack of moisture across the trade area. Body condition on receipts was mostly moderate flesh with a few thin and a few fleshy. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 250- to 950-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 28%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1%, and feeders 72%. The feeder supply included 68% steers and 32% heifers, with nearly 57% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 331 lbs., pre-conditioned 199.00; few 367 lbs., 177.00; few 400 to 500 lbs., 177.00 to 181.00; few 500 to 600 lbs., 162.00 to 171.00; few 638 lbs., 151.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 142.00 to 145.00; 900 to 1000 lbs., 120.00 to 126.00. Slaughter cows: Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 75.00 to 81.75; high dressing, 83.00 to 89.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 73.00 to 77.75; high dressing, 82.25 to 86.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 74.00 to 78.50; high dressing, 80.50 to 86.25.

Dairy slaughter cows: Boning, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1700 lbs., 71.00 to 75.50; high dressing, 77.00 to 78.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 73.00 to 77.50; low dressing, 68.00 to 69.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 1700 lbs., 92.00 to 97.00; high dressing, 2285 lbs., 110.00.
