Clovis livestock auction summary

The Clovis Livestock Auction Summary, Clovis, N.M., reported receipts of 2,095 head Jan. 23, compared to 2,430 head last week and 3,359 head last year, according to the New Mexico Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Clovis, N.M.

Compared to last week, feeder steers at 300 to 500 pounds were $5 to $6 higher, 500 to 600 pounds were steady, and over 600 pounds were $3 to $4 lower. Heifers at 300 to 500 pounds were $1 to $2 higher, and over 500 pounds were $2 to $3 lower. Slaughter cows were mostly steady. There was no accurate comparison on bulls due to limited receipts. Trade was active, demand good. The bulk of the supply were medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows were 10% of the offering, slaughter bulls less than 1%, bred cows 11%, pairs less than 1%, feeders 78%. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 46% of the run, heifers 54%, feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 36%.

Stocker cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 3, young, 785 to 1425 lbs., 70.50 to 83.25; young to middle-aged, 890 to 1475 lbs., 1 to 8 months bred, 71.00 to 83.00; aged, 1180 to 1635 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 69.50 to 73.50.

Feeder and field cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 3, 710 to 1120 lbs., 60.00 to 70.75.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young, 830 to 1425 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 835.00 to 1320.00, 785 to 1200 lbs., 1 to 3 months bred, 625.00 to 950.00/head; middle-aged, 810 to 1250 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 885.00 to 1085.00/head; aged, 880 to 1370 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 800.00 to 1125.00/head.
