MeditationRead James 2:14-26 Don't forget to do good and to share what you have because God is pleased with these kinds of sacrafices. --Hebrews 13:16 (CEB) As I measured the flour and kneaded the bread dough, I thought of the people who would later enjoy this offering from my kitchen. A recent surgery prevented me from eating many foods, but I still loved to cook. My husband's coworkers and our extended family received most of what I baked. The story of Martha helped me to view my baking as a ministry. She used her God-given talent of hospitality to show her joy at having Jesus in her home and having the chance to make him comfortable and welcome. Martha demonstrated her faith through her actions, as we are told to do in James 2. As I reflected on Hebrews 13:16, I realized that I can express my faith and love through my "kitchen sacrifices," by taking meals, soups, or treats to shut-ins, new mothers, neighbors, or busy, working families. When I prepare these gifts with prayers for the recipients and deliver them with friendship and joy, I show others that God cares for them through the actions of God's family on earth. PRAYER Heavenly father, help us to share our faith with others by using the gifts and talents with which you have blessed us. Amen. Thought for the Day How do my actions demonstrate my faith.
