ICA to focus on public policy initiatives

Iowa

The Iowa Cattlemen's Association has added a new staff member who will be a resource for ICA members on grassroots and public policy issues. Justine Stevenson, a Jones County native, joined the ICA staff on Jan. 14 as the director of Government Relations and Public Policy.

In that role, Stevenson will have a priority focus on assisting ICA members on local, state and national issues, whether in the legislative arena or with agency relationships. "Justine will enhance the connection between ICA membership and government entities by using member input to outline policy focus. She will also provide avenues for membership to voice input on topics impacting the cattle and beef businesses of Iowa," said Matt Deppe, ICA's chief executive officer.

Stevenson grew up on a farm near Cascade that included a beef feedyard, and is now involved in a cow-calf operation near Knoxville. She received a bachelor's degree in Animal Science at Iowa State University, and recently earned a Master of Science degree in Meat Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

"Justine has spent her life talking to cattle producers. She understands their production challenges and is ready to tell their story to legislators and agency decision-makers," Deppe said.
