McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,000 head Feb. 19, compared to 840 head last week and 1,130 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer calves under 400 pounds were steady to $5 lower, over 400 pounds were $2 to $6 higher. Heifer calves under 400 pounds were lightly tested and $4 to $10 lower, over 400 pounds were $2 to $10 higher. The supply includes 22% over 600 pounds, with 43% heifers. Quality was average to attractive. Slaughter cows were $3 to $4 higher. Slaughter bulls were $4 lower. Packer demand was moderate to good. A total of 275 cows and bulls sold with 68% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 22 head, 1400 to 2200 lbs., 100.00 to 103.00; high dressing, 104.00 to 107.00; low dressing, 94.00 to 99.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 4 years old, 900 to 925 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average quality, 800.00 to 950.00; 5 to 8 years old, 1025 to 1400 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average to high quality, 1025.00 to 1300.00; 7 to 10 years old, 950 to 1275 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality, 920.00 to 1050.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 1050 to 1375 lbs., with 75- to 225-lb. calves, average to high quality, 1075.00 to 1375.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1050 to 1425 lbs., with 75- to 100-lb. calves, average to high quality, 1025.00 to 1150.00.
