Find best buys all year longBy Cindy Williams Meadowlark District Extension Agent Do you remember the shopping days when your mother would wait all year long to buy linens and bedding in January at the annual white sale? This tradition has been around since 1878 and continues today. There are many purchases that we make all year long that are best saved for certain months of the year in order to get the best deals. Read further to see what best buys you can find each month. January--It's cold outside, but the deals are warming up inside. Look for the timeless annual white sale on linens, bedding as well as savings on sporting goods. February--Taking a trip? Dreaming of warmer climates in the winter or fretting over the oncoming heat waves of summer? February is the month for luggage, cameras and servicing your air conditioner. March--Time to start thinking about next winter. What, you say? Yes, March is the month to grab up the great deals on winter outerwear. Also look for gardening tools, and china and flatware. April--Ready for tax season? If you are in the market for a new computer, April is the month to get great deals on computers, especially laptops. You will also find big sales on athletic footwear as well as vacuum cleaners. May--It's the perfect time of the year to get outside and enjoy the sunshine! May is the month for great buys on BBQ accessories such as charcoal and lighter fluid. Don't buy that new grill just yet; look a few months down the page. May is also the perfect time to find great deals on patio furniture and spring and summer clothing. June--Most of us don't think about buying a men's suit this time of year, but now is the time to find a great buy just in time for Father's Day. You will also find many sales on tools and health club memberships. July--Look for markdowns on grills to start just after July 4. You will also find lawn and gardening supplies as well as lawn mowers on sale as prices begin to drop. Also, look for great deals on kitchen appliances. Think ahead to the holidays and enjoy the discount. August--Planning a fall camping trip? August is the time to stock up on camping supplies and equipment as stores are looking to make room for winter gear. Also expect sales on wine, storage containers and linens. September--In need of a new piece of transportation? Whether it's a car or a bicycle, this is a good time to buy as new models are coming out and the old ones are on sale. Other good buys in September are grills and lawn mowers as the summer season winds down. October--Cookware, lingerie and RVs are on sale. November--Look forward to bargains on GPS devices, baby products, televisions and other electronics, especially as you gear up for Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. December--The end of the year marks a good time to buy a new car since consumers are busy with holiday shopping; this makes for some great opportunities for a purchase.
