Hereford Innovator Award presented

Brent and Kris Lowderman, Carthage, Ill., were presented with an American Hereford Association Innovator Award during the National Western Stock Show Hereford Carload and Pen Show Jan. 18 in Denver. Brent and Kris were chosen because of their contribution to the Hereford industry.

Brent was raised on his family's Hereford operation, Lowderman Cattle Co. He is still a part of that operation today, along with his parents, who started the Hereford business, Jack and Sherry, and his brothers and their families.

Brent and Kris own and operate the Carthage Livestock Auction Co. in Carthage, Ill. Brent manages the auction barn and Kris, in addition to her job as an accountant, uses her CPA degree to keep the books for the auctions.

Through their involvement in the auction business and their love of Herefords, Brent and Kris helped start the Greater Midwest Hereford Influenced Feeder Calf Sale in 2007, which was one of the first of its kind and has helped create demand for Hereford and Hereford-cross feeder calves. The sale helps smaller producers pool their cattle and draws buyers looking specifically for Hereford feeder calves.
