Springfield livestock auction report

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 1,186 head Feb. 13, compared to 2,695 head last week and 1,351 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves under 500 pounds were steady, steer calves over 500 pounds were $2 to $5 lower, and heifer calves over 500 pounds were $5 to $10 lower. Yearlings were $2 to $5 lower on a light test following last week's lower trade. Holsteins under 550 pounds were $5 to $10 higher, and over 550 pounds were steady. Demand was unevenly moderate, supply moderate to light. A light snow fall curtailed the receipts, but several farmer buyers were in the seats and provided active bidding on light, grazing cattle. Cattle futures had a difficult time finding solid footing as they continued to trade sharply lower. The feeder supply included 29% steers, 29% Holsteins, 33% heifers, 9% bulls, with 42% over 600 pounds.
