Chase County teams win ranch rodeos

Buck Creek-Lonesome Pine Ranches of Chase County dominated ranch rodeo competitions sponsored by the Morris County Youth Rodeo Association at Council Grove, Kan.

In the Youth Ranch Rodeo, the Buck Creek-Lonesome Pine team of Sammy Jo Peterson, Mackenzie Higgs and Michelle Patry placed first. The threesome won the ribbon roping and placed second in calf branding en route to the championship.

The Paddy Creek Ranch team of Bailey Allen, Heather Patry and Cole Wilson was second in the youth rodeo.

Third went to the Three Amigos team of Jim Gant, Blaine Fillmore and Jayden Patry, and fourth was the PFA Ranch threesome of Nicole Patry, Breah Fillmore and Shyanne Allen.

Awards for the Youth Ranch Rodeo were sponsored by the Charles Blosser Memorial, with stipends to each individual participant, and engraved working awards to members of the top two teams.

Nineteen four-member teams from throughout the Flint Hills competed in the Invitational Fall Ranch Rodeo with the Buck Creek-Lonesome Pine team of Randy Peterson, Bud Higgs, Troy Higgs and Connor Grokett placing first.

En route to top honors, the champion team was first in team penning and steer branding, while being second in double mugging, and sixth in team roping. In addition to payback checks, each cowboy received engraved trophy spurs.

Second place was collected by 2i Feeders of Lyon County, with Jason Gibson, Grady Gibb, Clint Bohnen and Adrian Vogel as team members.

JC Cattle Company of Geary County ranked third, with Jason Brown, Justin Brown, Corby Effland and Cody Hayes on the team.

Arndt & Bailey Ranches of Lyon and Chase counties were fourth, with Ryan Arndt, Wes Bailey, Josh Lilley and Cory Krause as riders.

Buck Creek-Lonesome Pine Ranches topped 19 teams from throughout the Flint Hills to win the Invitational Fall Ranch Rodeo sponsored by the Morris County Youth Rodeo Association at Council Grove. Team members include Bud Higgs, Randy Peterson, Troy Higgs and Connor Grokett.
