MeditationRead John 7:37-39 Jesus said, "Let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, 'Out of the believer's heart shall flow rivers of living water.'" --John 7:38 (NRSV) Recently a blizzard slammed the Atlanta area where I live and kept people inside for several days. After about three days of being stuck inside, I became weary and bored. I tried to find activities to keep me busy, but to no avail. As I stared out the window at the snow, I reminded myself that the snow would soon melt and turn into water. As I dwelled on this thought, I saw that our lives are often like this. Over time our hearts can become frozen. Jesus, however, promised that those who believe in him would have "rivers of living water" flowing from within them. In other words, those who are led by the Spirit are those whose lives flow freely and unceasingly from a never-ending Source. When the sun hits the snow, it begins to melt and flow out into the world. In a similar way, as the Spirit touches our heavy frozen hearts, we are slowly transformed into people through whom love, grace, and peace naturally flow out into the world. PRAYER Loving God, send your spirit to free our hearts to serve your kingdom. Melt away our selfishness, and make us people of humbling love. Amen. Thought for the Day When we let God thaw our frozen hearts, love will flow more freely through us. Britt Hester (Georgia) Date: 2/18/2013
