Commercial Horticulture Marketing Workshop set for Feb. 23Kansas K-State Research and Extension-River Valley District #4 will host the 2013 Commercial Horticulture Marketing Workshop on Feb. 23 at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The workshop is designed to enhance the marketing of local commercial horticulture producers. During the morning general sessions, Lisa Roberts of the WSU Small Business Development Center will provide an overview of marketing cooperatives and the basics of a marketing plan. The working lunch will be time spent exploring the questions: "What are you really selling?" and "What are they really buying?" The afternoon is dedicated to work sessions where participants will roll up their sleeves and work on actual plans. Roberts, along with Linda Sutton from the NCK SBDC, will work with participants in a small group, hands on setting. Those participants interested in developing a marketing cooperative will work on the basics of putting the cooperative together and then developing their marketing plan. Those participants who are individual businesses will work in that small group to develop their individual marketing plan. The day will wrap up with planning for follow-up sessions to see the plans to completion. Pre-registration is required by Feb. 19 by contacting any River Valley District office. Registration covers all workshop materials, morning refreshments, and a soup and sandwich buffet lunch.
