McAlester livestock market report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,500 head Feb. 5, compared to 1,085 head last week and 1,380 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer calves were $6 to $10 higher. Heifer calves were $2 to $9 higher. Quality was mostly attractive. The supply includes 23% over 600 pounds with 54% heifers. Slaughter cows were $2 to $3 higher, except Lean cows were $2 to $3 lower. Slaughter bulls were $2 higher. Packer demand was moderate to good. A total of 155 cows and bulls sold with 78% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 18 head, 1400 to 2200 lbs., 97.00 to 100.00; high dressing, 101.00 to 104.00; low dressing, 87.00 to 91.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 4 years old, 950 to 1025 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average quality, 1050.00 to 1110.00; 1 to 4 years old, 900 to 1175 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality, 1050.00 to 1310.00; 5 to 6 years old, 975 to 1175 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, average quality, 1240.00 to 1330.00; 5 to 6 years old 1000 to 1400 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality, 1110.00 to 1140.00; 7 to 8 years old 1075 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality, 1170.00 to 1260.00; 9 to 10 years old 1000 to 1075 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, average quality, 900.00 to 1070.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 900 to 925 lbs., with 150- to 225-lb. calves, average to high quality, 1280.00 to 1390.00; 7 to 8 years old, 900 to 1175 lbs., with 150- to 175-lb. calves, average quality, 1270.00 to 1370.00.
